Biden’s comments come on the heels of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s comment on “Meet the Press” that President Barack Obama’s “war on coal” led to “an implosion of the coal industry.”

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) issued a statement in response to Biden’s remarks.

“Biden’s false comments are a continuation of the Republicans’ constant attacks on those who are taking responsible steps to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels by supporting investments in renewable energy,” the statement read. “The President is leading on this issue, and so is the vice president. To suggest otherwise is appalling.”
