Garfield Slammed by Meghan Markle for Using 'Humbling Truth' of His Mother's Death

The latest issue of GQ magazine pays tribute to actor Andrew Garfield, who is currently making headlines for his interview in the magazine.

Just prior to the publication of the story, people began speculating that the controversial actor was “snuck” on to the set, because it was unclear from the cover and its story how long the actor had been in the interview.

The writer of the story, Josh Tyrangiel, who is the former editor-in-chief of Conde Nast Traveler, is also the author of the executive memoir about the seven hardest years of his life, Out of Iraq.

The writer reportedly paid special attention to Garfield’s comments about his mother, who passed away. The actor described how “life has been different since her death.”

“Nothing’s the same…She’s with my body but I’m not with her,” the actor said. “So my body experiences her but I don’t experience her, and that’s a part of me that can’t be there.”

“So much of life is absence…painfully quiet, intractable silence…on the periphery.” – Andrew Garfield (our story in @GQMagazine, October, 2017) pic.twitter.com/29rufTZ6XW — GQ Magazine (@GQMagazine) September 29, 2017

The magazine headline for the interview was “In Andrew Garfield, GQ sees a raw truth.”

Some of the former Queer Eye star’s fans have suggested the actor’s stance on his late mother is an example of an “attempt to be vulnerable.”

However, Garfield clarified this during the article, saying his silence on his feelings for his mom was a way to speak out.

“I’m sad about it, and it’s only since talking about it publicly that I’ve begun to process the piece of myself that can’t be there anymore.”

Garfield also spoke out against modern day technology.

“But I’m in this room and I feel that I’m unable to be fully present in the moment because the world around me is being stitched together around me—and all those things pull me away from my own,” he said.

Garfield has starred in a number of blockbuster movies, including hits like “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “Hacksaw Ridge.”

The actor was previously slammed by Meghan Markle, who told “Entertainment Tonight” that she does not believe in disguising his sexuality and thinks it’s important that his performance is real and authentic.
